Introduction

uvrentoh is an independent news, media and entertainment publisher working out of Cape Town, and we handle the personal information of our readers with care. For the processing set out below we are the responsible party, as that term is used in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Information We Collect

When you visit the site we may automatically collect your IP address, browser type, the pages you open and basic interaction data. When you subscribe to a newsletter, send us a story tip or create an account, we ask for details such as your name and e-mail address. We never ask readers for identity numbers or banking details.

How We Use Your Information

We use what we collect to run and improve the site, to shape the reporting we put in front of you, to measure and optimise advertising and to answer enquiries. Processing stays within the purposes described here, as section 13 of POPIA requires, and we keep the information only for as long as those purposes need.

Cookies

The site uses cookies to keep the reading experience working and to understand which stories are being read. You can manage or refuse cookies in your browser settings, and our Cookie Policy sets out each category in more detail.

Sharing of Information

We do not sell personal information. It is shared only where the law requires it, or where an operator such as our hosting, e-mail delivery or analytics provider processes it on our behalf under a written agreement. Anonymised, aggregated statistics may be shared with commercial partners.

Your Rights

Sections 23 to 25 of POPIA give you the right to ask what personal information we hold and to have it corrected or deleted. Write to [email protected] and we will respond within a reasonable time. If you are not satisfied you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) at [email protected], and requests under the Promotion of Access to Information Act 2 of 2000 (PAIA) may be sent to our information officer.
